Steve Milton

Steve Milton is a director of Innovations in Dementia. Steve leads our work on dementia-freindly communities and disability rights.

Since 2010 Steve's work in this area has included :

Collating the views of people with dementia about dementia friendly communities
Working with Nada on "Dementia Capable Communities: The views of people with dementia and their supporters February 2011" for the department of Health.

Developing a toolkit for use at a local level
Leading our work for the Local Government Assocation which culminated in "Creating Dementia Friendly Communiites - Guidance and Learning for Local Authorities" . This report includes a "toolkit" to support the development of dementia friendly communities at grassroots level. It has been widely adapted for use across the UK and overseas.
This guidance was updated in 2015, and can be downloaded from the Local Government Association website:

Working in collaboration with other organisations
Working with Alzheimer's Society of Ireland on initial DFC scoping 2012

Working with Age UK
Working with 60 local Age UKs to support mainstream services to become dementia friendly from 2012 to 2015.

Updating "Living Life with Dementia" report for Age UK published Autumn 2014.

Membership of a working group for BSI to develop code of practice on dementia friendly communities 2014- present

Going on a lecture tour of Australia on the UK experience of developing dementia friendly communities.
